Branch Locations: SM Megamall, Robinsons Magnolia, SM Mall of Asia, SM Southmall, SM Aura, SM North The Block
I call Yabu my happy place. I always feel happy here. I love the food, I love the service. I love Yabu.
What I usually order when we eat here is Jumbo Prawn Katsu Set. It comes with miso soup, white rice/brown rice, shredded cabbage and ranch dressing dip. The soup, rice and cabbage are unlimited. There’s also pickled radish and fresh fruits to cleanse your palate in between or after meal.
I can’t even begin to describe how good the prawns taste without salivating as I am writing this. When you take a bite of the jumbo prawn, what you taste is the actual prawn meat – not just the breading itself. I am impressed that the breading is light and crispy without being too overwhelming. The prawn is succulent and fried to perfection and not oily at all. I usually finish the initial serving of rice just by eating one piece of prawn. I would usually ask for more rice but ever since my metabolism decided to slow down (you get this after you turn 25), I make it a point to just finish one cup.
I love their ranch dressing because it has the right amount of creaminess and tanginess that will not overpower the seafood. Since the soft-shell crab katsu was released, you can now ask for tempura sauce. I like how their sauce is slightly sweeter and more savory than what is served in other Japanese restaurants.
I’ve also tried their Hire and Rosu Katsu / Katsu Curry sets since this is the one Chard (the boyfriend) usually orders. The pork is tender and moist and tastes perfect especially when dipped in the katsu sauce. Yum!
Being the foodie that I am, Yabu is one place I have never been disappointed in. If you’re reading this and you’ve never eaten in Yabu, then you’re missing half of your life.
