REVIEW: MAYBELLINE COLOR ELIXIRS

Maybelline Color Elixirs. It’s a new formulation that’s currently the in-thing for drugstore companies. It is a lipstick-lipgloss-balm kind of hybrid product. I think L’oreal also came up with a similar product late last year. I think they’re called Maybelline Lip Polish here in the Philippines. I’ve seen this once in the local counters and they seem to have limited colors and different color names too.

I bought these babies from Bonmarche for 300 pesos each. I got the following shades:

  • 020 Signature Scarlet (appears slightly orange-red on my lips)
  • 005 Breathtaking Apricot (light but warm coral pink)
  • 030 Raspberry Rhapsody ( light plum)
  • 040 Vision in Violet (blue toned violet ; reminds me of MAC’s Heroine but in gloss form)

According to Maybelline’s website, the color elixirs “deliver the color of a lipstick, the cushiony care of a balm, and the glass shine of a gloss.”  And I have to agree.  What I first noticed when I tested these is hydration. I did not have to reach for my lipbalm the whole day when I used this. These are very hydrating and  this is true for all of the shades I currently have.

As you can see, they’re very pigmented in the swatches as well as on the lips especially Signature Scarlet and Vision in Violet. Both shades applied very opaque on my lips. They stayed on for around 4 hours or less if you eat or drink. I don’t mind reapplying so it doesn’t bother me that it’s not very long lasting. My only complaint is that Signature Scarlet bled after 4 hours. I was just drinking tea the whole time. Well, it’s a typical problem of a red colored lip product.

Just a warning though, these do stain your lips (and my arm). The swatches were on for less than 15 minutes and I had a hard time removing it.

Swatched for only 15 minutes and look at the stain it left behind.

Of all the 4 shades I have, my favorite will have to be the 2nd and 3rd one in the swatch. They’re perfect colors for Spring in my opinion. Overall, Maybelline Color Elixirs have a great formula that doesn’t dry out and flake my lips. If you love pigment and shine without wanting to layer on products, then they’re worth a try!

Check the Maybelline Counters for their Lip Polish. I’m pretty sure they’re the same stuff. Price here is 350 pesos each.
