REVIEW: HATCH 22 @ ROCKWELL

It was Chard’s birthday last Monday and we had lunch at Hatch 22! I like the casual-homey-rustic feel of the restaurant. The walls are bare  except for some paintings. They use couches and big pieces of wood trunks as chairs – though I doubt those trunks are comfortable to sit in.

Trivia: That painting beside Hatch 22’s logo is by Solenn Heussaff

Our sole purpose of trying this restaurant was to get their NYOB (Not Your Ordinary Benedicts) or their version of Eggs Benedict. Since Chard loves his EBs, he ordered that one.  I ordered their Cafe Daily special for myself and we also tried their New England Chowder for appetizer.

First one to arrive was the NYOB!

The arugula was there for presentation but in my opinion it goes very well with the dish!

I took a bite of it from Chard’s plate and got a bit underwhelmed by it. I guess it was just hyped up so much I had high expectations. I guess what I liked the most is mixing arugula in it since it tasted a bit different than usual.

The next thing that was served was my Sole Muniere.

Heaven in a plate. Yum!

Look at that plating! It was baked sole with basil/capers vinaigrette served with cherry tomatoes and baked potato wedges on the side. The fish was so light, moist and flavorful and just so delicious. The baked potatoes went really well with the dish because it gives you that balance to the lightness of the fish. Even Chard agreed that this dish is amazing!

Then while we’re in the middle of our main course, we realized that our soup was still missing in action. We had to follow it up and it came after 5 minutes.

New England Clam Chowder

Was it worth the wait? Well, it was served with a pretty good bread. Don’t get me wrong, the soup is good. It’s made from scratch so maybe that’s the reason it took so long. It has the right amount of cream and flavor but not salty – yey for me! You could taste some fresh clams too which gets two thumbs up from me.

Hatch 22 has a bakery too! We just didn’t have time to checkout the bread section because we had to go to work.

Service was pretty okay. I’ve read some reviews saying that service sucks but we went lunch time on a weekday. We didn’t have to wait since several tables were vacant. Soup came out pretty late though.

Overall, I think this restaurant is worth a visit. Try going on Mondays so you could try Sole Muniere!
