Ever since Mega Fashion Hall opened, our food choices in SM Megamall have not been limited to Yabu and Jipan anymore. Chard and I obviously love Japanese cuisine. So when we were deciding on our lunch date last Saturday, we decided to try a restaurant we haven’t visited yet.
It was a rainy Saturday morning then. We were supposed to go to Enchanted Kingdom for a our office Christmas party but we ended up not going because – RAIN. Laziness took over and we decided to just spend the afternoon away and watch a movie.
Va Bene is located in the BGC Central Cinemas, 3rd floor. It’s the newest building in BGC that opened last April 30. Finally, a movie house in that area, yey! The place didn’t have an eye-catching sign so we almost missed it when we walked around the floor. If you get lost, look for (the very soshal) Potato Corner and the restaurant is right across it.
We already researched before coming here so we knew this restaurant is pricey. It would definitely set you back 500-600 pesos per person. We ordered 3 items, pasta, soup and pasta and our bill was 1,200 pesos. We just shared everything we ordered. We had Zuppa, creamy mushroom soup and it tasted like mushroom soup but the taste is elegantly elevated because they used different kinds of mushrooms. Portobello was the flavor that stood out the most. For salad, we ordered Polipo which has octopus, sundried tomatoes, olives and arugula dressed in lemon dressing. This was so good! It’s tart and refreshing, and surprisingly ok for me even though I am acidic. I can’t eat anything too sour.
For main, we had Organic Eggs Tagliatelle. The pasta was obviously freshly made since it tasted quite different. I am so used to store bought dry pasta that I know when the pasta is fresh. Fresh pasta tastes more chewy and I totally enjoyed it with the sauce. To be honest, the sauce tastes similar to the mushroom based soup we ordered. I think it’s largely because of the mushrooms. But it’s still good anyway.
Overall, it’s enjoyable to eat in Va Bene because you get the freshest ingredients for the price you pay. We’d definitely come back and try other pasta dishes because I know they have so much more to offer.

When we moved to the new house 3 years ago, my only request to my parents was to have a space in the kitchen for an oven. I didn’t mind paying for the oven because I know that I will be able to do more recipes that required baking. I already tried baking savory meals since then but I have not tried baking breads or pastries.
A few weeks ago, I watched Anna‘s video wherein she baked a Lemon Drizzle Cake. Lily Pebbles was raving about the cake so I was tempted to make it. I don’t like sweets very much but since this involved lemons, I know it won’t be overly sweet. I thought the ingredients were fairly easy to find locally and it was not that hard to make. I didn’t have a mixer but Chard said I could do it by hand.
The lines are long. They’re ALWAYS long especially on weekends. They open at 12 noon so no matter how early you line up, the first people in line will get seated at 11:45. So be prepared – bring food and water when you line up. I also suggest not lining up very hungry because you will really end up waiting for quite a while. Also, they’re very strict with groups – if you’re lining up for a big group, make sure that you are complete before you are seated.
I had high hopes for this, really. It wasn’t cheap after all.
I accompanied my mother to Unimart for some grocery shopping last Saturday. I love going to the grocery and seriously, I can stay there all day just looking at the things I can buy and use for cooking. Continue reading Gelato Edoardo: Stracciatella→
It was Chard’s birthday last Monday and we had lunch at Hatch 22! I like the casual-homey-rustic feel of the restaurant. The walls are bare except for some paintings. They use couches and big pieces of wood trunks as chairs – though I doubt those trunks are comfortable to sit in.
Our sole purpose of trying this restaurant was to get their NYOB (Not Your Ordinary Benedicts) or their version of Eggs Benedict. Since Chard loves his EBs, he ordered that one. I ordered their Cafe Daily special for myself and we also tried their New England Chowder for appetizer.
